Tips on Eating Healthy in Hotels

When the idea for this post orginally popped in my head it was before we were living in a hotel full time.  The original idea was to share how I pack coolers when we are on the road to avoid eating out every meal of road series.  Now that we are living in a hotel for the last month and a half of the season, these tips evolved a little.

It is hard to eat healthy when you are staying in a hotel because it is easiest to eat out for every meal.  Our room has a kitchen, but 1) it is kind of gross and 2) I didn't find it worth it to pack all of our pots and pans for a few weeks.

So here are the solutions that I've come up with to get us through and avoid eating out every meal.

Breakfast:
Breakfast is the easiest meal to eat in the hotel in my opinion.  I just keep the refrigerator stocked with fruit juice and milk.  And I always have granola bars, cereal, or muffins on hand.  That way we don't have to worry about going to get breakfast full of unnecessary calories.

Snacks:
This is another easy thing to get at the store.  I just make sure to have different fruit options plus something like edamame for us to snack on.  This cuts down on the tempting vending machine runs.  It is hard to skip out on unhealthy snacks when they are literally foot steps from your door.  As long as I have fresh fruit, I can normally convince myself to eat that instead.

Prepackaged:
I've professed my love for Trader Joe's lately, but their prepackaged salads are my favorite!  I always have a few on hand to keep from grabbing dinner out before the games.  Especially since it is just me for dinner, there is really no sense in eating out.  These salads are a life saver and I feel so good about eating them!

These are the tips I've found helpful so far! Do you have any tips on eating healthy when you are out of town or in a hotel?

  1. When I travel I am a big fan of bringing food with me because it's much easier to make the healthier choice when that food is already in my hotel room! I also bring pre-made bags of oatmeal (cheaper making my own than buying the store bought ones...which also have added sugar) and peanut butter packets for a quick and easy breakfast!

  4. Great tips! Thanks for sharing. We travel often on the weekends, so it's always hard not to snack on junk food from the gas station or go through a drive thru for fast food. I need to get some of the prepackaged salads to take with us in the car! Thanks for sharing!! XO
