Gratitude Journal // Wednesday's Words

Welcome to another week of Wednesday's Words with Jenni and me! This week we would love for you to share bits of your gratitude journal or a list of things you are thankful for in this season of Thanksgiving!

Since finishing One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, I have been keeping a gratitude journal.  I'm going to be honest and say that I am not as consistent as I would like to be.  I jot down things I am grateful for every few days, but I want to make it a daily habit.  I'm learning that the more I communicate my thankfulness with the Lord, the more I notice all the ways He blesses me during the day.  The smallest of things like the beauty of leaves falling from the trees or the way my coffee smells are blessings that God deserves to be thanked for.  So in this week full of Thanksgiving, I would love for us to share a list of what we are grateful for.  Be sure to link up your post at the end so we can read your lists as well!

Here is a portion of my Gratitude Journal...
-The Smell of French Pressed Blueberry Cobbler Coffee
-Quiet Mornings in the Word
-Frozen Yogurt Dates with my Best Friend
-Puppy Cuddles
-Dinner in the Crockpot
-No Obligation Days
-Morning Light Coming Through the Kitchen Window
-Fresh Flowers
-Movie Nights with Chris
-Homemade Pizzas
-Candles
-Christmas Decorations
-Sister Spend the Night Parties
-Preschool Programs
-Baby Snuggles
-Fabric Softener Scent

Some of these things may not seem like blessings to you, and that is completely okay.  The Lord knows each of us personally and knows what makes our heart happy.  Blankets that smell like fabric softener and cuddles with my puppies make me joyful.  You might hate my fabric softener and be a cat person.  So these things wouldn't be blessings for you.  I think that is one of the things that I have loved most about keeping a gratitude journal.  It reminds me that the Lord loves me on a personal level so much so that He gives me small, daily blessings that make MY heart happy.  Does it blow anybody else's mind that our huge God is that personal? It reminds me that He is our Heavenly  Father, not just the creator of the world but our father.  There is something very sweet about a father's love, and our Heavenly Father loves us infinitely more than our earthly fathers.  It is a hard concept for me to grasp, but when I look at the gifts from my Heavenly Father in my gratitude journal I am reminded that He loves me more than I can grasp.  And that, friends, is a really comforting feeling.

This is a little off-topic, and you might have seen this on my Instagram yesterday morning.  But I want to share it here too in case anybody else needs the encouragement in this area:
"It's 7:00 and I'm on my second cup of coffee because when I wake up at 3:30 and can't go back to sleep, it is a sure sign that my heart needs time with Jesus. It is so easy to get caught up in the craziness and lose sight of the fact that Jesus has already overcome the world.
The Lord met me this morning in my sadness and worry with this:
Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tender hearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it. For the scriptures say, "If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it." 1 Peter 3:8-11
Sorry for the novel, but sometimes we just need a reminder that the Lord is good. There is so much evil in this world, but God knew there would be. That is why He gives us verses like these to cling to. I pray that we "search for peace and work to maintain it" even in the face of evil."

So today, my prayer is that we find comfort in the fact that our Heavenly Father loves us in a very personal way and He has already overcome the world.  I don't know how it can be any more comforting than that!

Do you keep a gratitude journal?

Now it is your turn to share your list of things you are grateful for!
